Sadly, not The Onion.

The Religious Wrong along with their Republican allies (when they are not one and the same) keep trying to inject their mythology and their Bronze Age laws into the mainstream. Never mind the fact that the United States was founded as a secular nation with a constitutional division between church and state. They dont believe that anyway. In their bubble, fantasies trump facts!
Their latest brain fart comes to us courtesy of the Idaho Republican Party.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Idaho County Central Committee encourages the Idaho legislature to draft and support a bill stating that the Bible is expressly permitted to be used in Idaho public schools for reference purposes to further the study of literature, comparative religion, English and foreign languages, U.S. and world history, comparative government, law, philosophy, ethics, astronomy, biology, geology, world geography, archaeology, music, sociology, and other topics of study where an understanding of the Bible may be useful or relevant;
Now, I have no problem with the bible being discussed in literature classes and it has certainly had an effect on history. However, using it as a text in an astronomy, biology or geology class is ludicrous. The earth is more than 6000 years old. It took more than a week to form. And God didnt create 200,000,000,000 galaxies containing an average of 200,000,000,000 stars each, in an afternoon, despite what Genesis claims. Oh, and contrary to their hallucinations, evolution is a proven fact. Not only do we have fossil records, it has been observed in real-time. So, along with Louisiana, they can forget about sending any of their graduates to college.
