(22,336 posts)As a white person, and from the photos of her when young a fair white person, she has the privilege of making herself appear darker and being considered legitimate when doing so, but most people of color aren't given that option in our society. Our racist society decides who is what color, and yes our society makes it up but it still has strong negative consequences for some people. She can be "transracial" to get a job she wants, but if the going gets tough she's left with the option to go back to white again. Most African Americans can't just pretend to be white to get a job. Unemployment rates might not be what they are if they could. It just seems very privileged to have an interest, and want a job, and change your identity to get that job, when people on the other side of this can't do the same.
And I don't see the comparison to being transgender. There's a biological component to that. Race is entirely a social construct.
