It is a bit deceiving to have watched the instantaneous transformation into Caitlyn, and to expect trans* individuals generally to have such clear dividing lines. Many, if not most, trans* people go through a period in which certain people know them as one gender, and others know them as a different gender. Many, if not most, also identify personally (even if it is not spoken aloud) as the gender they will eventually present as. And, many trans* individuals never undergo a physical transformation (or at least not a complete one).
So to say that it is different because Caitlyn didn't say she was a woman until after she transitioned (and what Doziel did was bad because she identified as African American before she transitioned), puts most trans* individuals in the lying/bad category. It is not that clean a process.
Frankly, what Doziel did strikes me as cultural appropriation and privileged (since she can just decide not to be black whenever she feels like it), as well as deceptive since she told a number of lies (even taking her assertion of being African American at face value).
