I was born in Mobile, Alabama. So I am a child of the Gulf Coast. Those slightly inland blackwater lakes often have a perennial or semi-perennial cut into the Gulf of Mexico. Those cuts, through the beach sands into the Gulf (or backwards, Gulf to lake), have fascinated me since I was a small tyke. So now, I spend hours on those cuts, corroding tripod legs in the salt water, mid-calf deep in winter Gulf waters, watching for the buried stingray, to get these shots.
