69. Sparty's
Mon Jun 15, 2015, 07:20 PM
Jun 2015

Grew up near Pontiac, Waterford, and Rochester areas, but moved out to the Irish Hills 20 years ago.

Don't eat at the suburban Coney chains any more, but my current favorite is "Sparty's" in East Lansing. You can choose either "Detroit" or "Flint" style chili> FYI, Detroit all the way for me!

Rather interestingly, there is some dispute over whether the Coney was invented in Jackson or Detroit. Being near Jackson now, I hear their side of the story and they have evidence that it may be correct. Unfortunately, the Jackson Coney uses chili like they do in Flint, and since I prefer Detroit style, I don't eat them there.

Lipuma's in downtown Rochester is pretty darn good. Great thing for me is that the place is pretty much the same as it was when I went to HS in the mid 70's.
