3. It goes beyond this one suspect

This is why the work of the Southern Poverty Law Center is so important and so unique. They realized a long time ago that just catching and prosecuting the individual lynchers and shooters is not enough. They go after the hate groups that foment the twisted thinking and hate that cause these people to commit crimes. And they take the groups to court and sue the living daylights out of them and win--and often succeed in closing them down altogether.
