(29,414 posts)50. The silica gel is primarily there to keep the pills from sticking together.
That can be a problem, because if they sit stuck like that for too long, when you do manage to get them apart, you end up with one pill with a sizable hole in it, and the other one with a scratchy chunk of gelatin on its side.
And, of course, before you spend half an hour getting into your bottle, you have discovered that its box could have easily held five more similar-sized bottles (drug companies have major problems, it seems, with over-packaging, i.e., Black Hole Award.)
