(10,252 posts)"Race" is a concept, not a real thing. "Race" is mostly cultural, not biological. We impute characteristics onto people, based on skin color, hair type, facial features, etc. But do you know who all your ancestors were 10 generations ago? 100 generations ago? I lived in calif for30+ years amidst people from all over the world. Many friends and neighbors were multicultural (and multi-racial), and it was no big deal. In fact, such diversity made life very very interesting and enjoyable. But people in the heartland, who are locked into 1 white culture, don't know anything else. And they are fearful of different looking, different sounding people. Fear is at the heart of racism. Fear that someone will take away privilege. Fear of losing status and MONEY. And the fear leads to anger, which leads to hatred, which leads to stupid thoughts, words, and deeds.
When is reality, there is only 1 race -- the human race. We are all so closely related genetically, that we are all basically cousins. Long ago in our human evolution, some catastrophe nearly made us go extinct. Some scientists think human population got down to about 5K to 10K. That's why our genes are so close.
