In the eyes of homophobic America, it’s impossible to support the rights of the LGBT community without actually being gay. So, of course, the moment President Obama declared that he believed that LGBT Americans should have the right to marry, the internet and tabloids lit up with rumors of gay scandals. This article quotes a story from the tabloid, The Globe and adds this paragraph to add the appropriate amount of credibility:

Let’s see, Barack Obama. Not that manly. Admits he used coke. Married to mannish wife with big, muscular arms (although in all fairness, she does have a nice behind). Could he have done coke and had gay sex with an ex-con Larry Sinclair? It doesn’t seem completely implausible. Still, in all fairness, without any further evidence and with just the Globe on the story, it’s hard to give Larry Sinclair’s story too much credence. However, if it does turn out to be true, well then Barack Obama — come on out of the closet, man.

In the same shallow way that Bill Clinton was anointed the first Black President, Newsweek’s Andrew Sullivan claimed Obama was the first Gay President. For the majority of Americans who are unwilling to read beyond the headlines, that single Newsweek cover could be all the proof they need of yet another reason that Obama isn’t “one of us.”
