2. Lee did do something worth remembering. When he lost, he ended the war.

Many in the Confederacy wanted to keep the war going or go underground with secret attacks vs the US government. Lee stopped fighting and became President of Washington College. Too many think the Civil War is unfinished business or that the South will rise again. Lee was not that kind of fool.
