(1,035 posts)The confederacy had three national flags. For a country that lasted four years, that is mighty impressive. The first one was discarded because it looked too much like the flag borne by the Grand Army of the Republic. The second flag resembles the one flown in South Carolina and the third one is so charming it incorporates the image of the second flag over a white banner. The white section is meant to symbolize in the words of William Thomson, a co-designer,
As a people we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause.
Yeah, just feel the history, culture and pride wrapped up in that banner.
No, my friends, I refer to that THING flying over SC as the sore losers banner or the traitors rag. I saw another one today on DU that I'm going to use, Dixie Swaztika.
