(169,349 posts)I took diversity workshops years and years ago where they described what is known as a "scotoma" (blind spot). The problem with people like him and millions of others, is that they have that "scotoma" to how what they are saying is missing deeper context. I suppose the term "tone deaf" is trying to establish similar behavior.
As part of those workshops, they always used to use the old psychologist optical illustrations - e.g., what do you see in this picture?

When the alternate view from what they claim they see is pointed out, then a light bulb will hopefully go off. And what people are often trying to do with the protests and activism is to show folks that "alternate view", and if they are unreceptive to it being pointed out, then they show their true colors.
