Why IS Obama so stingy about giving pardons? Not just to Don Siegelman as mentioned but a whole host of current and former prisoners? In particular, those convicted of crimes largely due to racism, like the crack cocaine drug disparity. Think of the opportunities for gainful employment that would be opened up to the former convicts if those felonies were wiped from their records. Perhaps it's in part because he didn't practice criminal law, but he has a real opportunity to right a lot of society's racist wrongs and he's not doing it. So it would outrage republicans. Big yawn there. Everything outrages them.
