2. Never thought I'd live to see the day

22 years ago I met my husband. In those days gay couples used terms like "life partner" or "significant other," or as the AIDS obits used to say, "long time companion." But we decided that in our own hearts and minds--back in 1993--we were married. Our hope then was that the rest of the world might acknowledge that fact someday.

This is that someday. John didn't live to see it, but I know he'd be as happy as I am today.
