Here in Florida, you have to sign a state form saying you're going to use exploding and flying fireworks for "agriculture purposes" (wink wink) such as scaring birds away from crops. My county (Pinellas) wasn't buying it so they made all the road side stands selling illegal fireworks sell legal ones only.The state didn't like the county trying to usurp their authority and told Pinellas they couldn't enforce the ban. Pinellas told them to go blow and enforce their OWN laws. Now at least the drunken dullards have to go to another county and get their stuff.
I think all this firework stuff coincided with China becoming a major trading partner. I don't remember EVER seeing a firework stand 15 years ago. Now they're everywhere.
Night in Baghdad is a good description-sometimes the smoke is so thick it literally looks like the neighborhood is on fire.
