I'm guessing they were small strokes on the right side. Those can affect judgment pretty severely and that's most likely what is going on. I hope you're managing to get daily aspirins into him, they can limit the extent of the major stroke he's working into although they won't prevent it.

If he's got any weakness on his left side, the strokes are on the right side of his brain. The opposite is also true.

I don't know what else to tell you. Your only alternative is to knock him over the head and drag him into the ER and the cops frown on that sort of thing.
