In reply to the discussion: Three perfectly good substitutes for the phrase "corporate whore" -- for people who would prefer [View all]TexasProgresive
(12,739 posts)58. Not bad but it doesn't have the power, the edge of the word in question.
I have heard that word and prostitute used my whole life to describe someone who abandons their principles. i.e. an artist who forgos his/her art to seek after fame and or fortune has prostituted their art. It bothers me that we are in danger of limiting the broad range of words because some can't get past one definition.
What started all this foofaraw, and would it have caused so much turmoil if it had been directed at a man, say Trump?

I personally like "toady." It seems so nasty...and I like nasty when describing the GOP...

Both of them are men. It carries a whole extra level of nastiness when aimed at a woman. n/t

I've seen people seriously argue that there is no good substitute for the phrase.

But which substitute should I take the black marker pen to my Nirvana t-shirt with?

That's a synonym for whore, and it's also associated with females, so it doesn't help much, IMO. n/t

None of those words fit the definition of selling oneself for money or power.
