New York museum opens exhibition devoted to internet cats [View all]

From lolcats to Caturday, the Museum of the Moving Image will study the serious business of being cute

OMG internet cat fans! Enough of this obsession with art and science: one museum has finally realised the importance of feline web activity.

From August 7 to January 31, The Museum of the Moving Image in New York will host an exhibition dedicated to all things cat, called How Cats Took Over The Internet.

The museum promises that the exhibition will take “a critical look at a deceptively frivolous phenomenon”, examining popular phenomena such as #Caturday, celebrity cats and lolcats to find out why cat pictures and videos have “transfixed a generation of web users”.
