(35,042 posts)31. Wow that's bold! I've passed a cop maybe once or twice but
never on the freeway and only when I felt that matching their slow speed would be too awkward and/or lead to unwanted attention.
As far as passing cops on the interstate, I definitely can't imagine getting in the far left lane to speed past a cop and then switching back over in front of the cop as the law (at least in GA) now dictates? Way too much can go wrong in that scenario. Maybe if there were at least 2 lanes to the left of the cop, but not if there was just one. My strategy, which has worked so far (knock on wood), is to avoid being noticed, a process that starts at the car dealership. Silver cars go unnoticed for the most part but style and brand matter too. Stay away from the type of car a cop would like or envy.

Same here. Luckily I've never needed "evasive action" on the highway, just around town.

I think that's part of the lesson here. If you're white, you MIGHT get stopped for doing it...

It looked like Sandra Bland pulled into the right lane so the cop could pass her

I am surprised you can do that and get away with it. I am surprised you, as a BLACK driver

After too many shakedown experiences with the LAPD, I don't trust them when I'm in traffic with them

Just follow Dr. Thompson's advice: "Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a HW Cop"

Yes, I've pulled over just in case the cop was in a hurry to get somewhere important.

I always check my speed limit, and become hyper vigilant, because I don't want a ticket.

I once pulled over when I was doing 40 in a 30 and saw the cop do a UTurn behind me.

Yes, then they usually swerve around me and go speeding on their way, without lights on...
