(10,478 posts)female here. I do what they say up to the point where they want to search the car, at which point I would suggest they get a warrant. That has never happened. I have been stopped a few times and that hypermacho cop-attitude enrages me, but I keep a lid on it. I tell them and give them what they want but am not submissive, I would say I am compliant. I volunteer nothing and I keep sarcasm out of my voice, which can be a struggle. I have a friend whose husband is a police chief and I have eaten at his dinner table many times and truly like him. When some authority junkie stops me, I repeat, "It's an act, he sits down and eats with his family like a normal human and his kids love him." Over and over again until he's on his way. I don't argue about the ticket or do anything to prolong the encounter as I can resist the provocative swagger only so long before I am in danger of becoming mouthy.
