4. I am just going to say something

for everyone in the rest of the USA.

You have no idea what "Rise and Shine" on Columbus TV was like. None.

It came on at 5 am. As a college at Auburn in the 90s sometimes I was still up to see it.

I can't do it credit, but basically, Calvin and a couple of other people would sit at a set that was a kitchen. They were nice, southern country people. They sat around the kitchen table. They had some sponsers like RC cola and they'd talk about RC a while and how good it was, and mention golden flake or some local garage where the guy was a good mechanic.

They would read the newspaper. No you have to remember that the internet was brand new. We had it at the university but most people didn''t. Some people had like AOL or compuserve, the world wide web was brand new. So they'd set at the table and Calvin would read the day's newspaper. And they had a phone line where people could call in. And they had like regular callers.

"Caaalvin, I was listening to you read that story in the paper and...."

And then the other guy would talk a while about how the fishing is and what good bait is right now, and some folks would call in and tell how the fishing was at so-and-so and what kind of bait they used. And sometimes guests would come on and show the fish they caught or something like that.

Then Calvin might read the paper some more, maybe the sports section, and there would be calls about the Dawgs this and bama that and how Auburn was superior to either in every way, that sort of thing.

I know that they didn't have a delay in the phone calls or seem to screen them because sometimes they'd get crank calls. Sometimes they would get that they were cranks (like the callers would cuss or something) and cut them off but usually they didn't get it and it could be funny because people would sort of troll them, before trolling was a thing. And sometimes they would have guests come on like Rusty so that would people would call in.

It was surreal, and I think Calvin was more self-aware than he let on.

I found this on youtube. Looks like they got a kitchen upgrade but it pretty much illustrates everything I was trying to say, don't watch it if you are going to get offended and don't blame me.
