man in the theater with a concealed carry gun, but that he didn't try to use it because it was dark in the theater and he couldn't tell exactly where the shooter was, and he knew that when the cops arrived, if they saw him with his gun out, they could easily assume that he was "the bad guy with the gun" and take him out. So he very sensibly did not try to use his gun to stop the shooter.

The guy who told me this is extremely pro-gun, and buys into that whole notion of concealed carry people stopping shooters. I could tell that he was really puzzling over this whole business, and it seemed to have him questioning some of his own core beliefs. I believe he got the info off of CNN's coverage.

Can you imagine if there had been a dozen people with concealed carry weapons in there, and they did not have the sense that this one guy had? Can you imagine the situation of gunfire coming from every corner of the theater, with dozens of people getting caught in the crossfire, and the absolute chaos once the police arrived? It would have been a slaughterhouse.
