Daughter, now 26, called me about the Planned Parenthood controversy. [View all]

She recounted when I first took her to Planned Parenthood at age 16. I was Catholic at the time and so was she, but I was newly divorced and determined to change my life and give her the education and choices I never had growing up. She called because she thought I may be upset about the accusations and controversy. She thanked me. She told me that I showed courage then, going against everything our extended Catholic family believed, and giving her the freedom to control her own sexuality and destiny. She mentioned how caring PP employees always were and still are. I told her I had no regrets either and that the right wing will do anything to restrict a woman's choice. The conversation ended with us both laughing about these pathetic attempts to discredit PP.
