(100,133 posts)....your regular doc.
On your own, use GERD precautions: no food 2 or more hours before bedtime, likewise alcohol. Elevate the head of your bed 6 inches (I hated that, so I got one of those foam wedges from the drugstore that carries medical supplies, and I use that to elevate my torso). Ask about Prilosec, which I believe is over the counter now. I was on a maintenance dose of that for years, until my doc switched me to another one by prescription.
Certain foods keep the sphincter open and encourage gastric reflux, hence the prohibitions on certain things too near bedtime: chocolate, alcohol, caffeinated drinks, mint..... Overeating and overweight can put pressure on the same sphincter.
If you turn out to have gastric reflux, take heed. It's damaging. I was one of the many people who have virtually symptomless GERD. Long story short, my vocal chords are damaged and I'm out of the choir.
Best of luck from another non-spring chicken. Stay well!
