(39,909 posts)149. I found DU in early 2001 (Jan or Freb).
I started standing on street corners, holding signs, and protesting the Supreme Court decision to STOP counting the votes in Florida the day after the SC decision. (before it was cool or popular..had a few beer cans thrown at me, but nothing I couldn't handle.)
"The endorsement of that position by the majority of this Court can only lend credence to the most cynical appraisal of the work of judges throughout the land. It is confidence in the men and women who administer the judicial system that is the true backbone of the rule of law.
Time will one day heal the wound to that confidence that will be inflicted by today's decision. One thing, however, is certain. Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law."

I KNEW something was BAD wrong.
Looking around the Internet for more information and like-minded people, I found Buzzflash,
and from there to the DU "Hate Mailbag".
I was stuck ever since.
Good Times: Meeting regularly with the DUers in Minneapolis in the dark days.
Bad Times: When I can't convince the entire Democratic Party to think like me and Franklin Roosevelt.

It reached number 5 in the US. It was one of my favorite songs as a teenager back in 1962.
