(8,124 posts)My night-time favorites were WLS-Chicago-Land with Dick Biondi for Carol's red Hanger Shops, http://www.wlshistory.com/WLS70/ WBZ-Boston, WSB-Atlanta, Wonderful WOWO from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The Big-8... CKLW Detroit/Windsor.
There was WABC New York, W N-N-BC,
That was back in the days of the "Drake" jocks.. who would talk over the instrumental intro to the song.. right up until the singing started...
I really liked WWL-New Orleans with Charlie Douglas and the all-night road gang.. "Let's go Trailer-truckin'.. brought to you by Super America in Slidell, La. And to this day.. I still listen to 650 WSM Nashville during the early morning hours. THey have the BEST country oldies.
And who can forget Wolfman Jack on XERB from Hollywoood, California. (Actually, a mexican station from somewhere down in Baja. ) http://www.xerbradio.com/
Anyway.. the fucking Republicans along with help from Bill Clinton made sure that all came to an end with the advent of Clear Channel.
Today, Clear Channel owns all 5 radio stations in my town. The merchants HATE them... and refuse to advertise. No local news, no local information. The music sucks.. and we get nothing but Rush and Hannity and Beck and Laura Ingrham, and... etc, etc, etc.
