(96 posts)I am doing a Presidential bucket list and am trying to visit all the Presidents homes, libraries, museums or gravesites. I decided earlier this summer that as President Carter was 90 I needed to get his done asap. In June drove all the way from Indy to Plains to hear him speak at his church. It was amazing to see how sharp and funny he still is and he taught quite a Sunday school class.
If you stay through the service, you can have your picture taken with him and Roslyn. I was the only African-American there that day and as it was the Sunday after the Charleston Massacre, he took note of me. He invited me to stand next to him and even put his hand on my back as he welcomed me. Now hearing this news, I am greatly saddened but appreciative that I was able to have that experience. If he continues to be able to teach Sunday school classes, I would encourage everyone to try and go and let him know how much he is appreciated.
