3. He definitely underestimated the American people.

He' thinks that 30% of the Republican party - mostly Tea Party Purists - are a good cross section of the American people. He isn't even close. They're not even the majority of Republicans, but a mere fraction of them. I don't think he's even risen in the polls since the debates. But you have to give him credit for not noticing his followers have peaked.

I've always suspected he's been running just to win a bet with one of his buddies. He probably bet that he could get the nomination without spending very much money, just by riding free off what the press says.
