Cruz sticks with critique of Jimmy Carter, day after cancer revelation [View all]

DES MOINES, Iowa – Sen. Ted Cruz stuck to his stump speech Friday at the Iowa State Fair “soapbox” – including the part drawing a parallel between the Obama era and the failed domestic policies, economic malaise and “feckless” foreign policy of Jimmy Carter.

Carter begat Ronald Reagan, and Barack Obama is setting the stage for another conservative revolution, preferably led by him. That’s Cruz’s argument, a standard element of his pitch to voters.

But this came just a day after Carter, 90, announced that he has cancer that had spread to his brain, would begin radiation treatment immediately, and was at peace with whatever happens.

Asked whether his attack was appropriate, given the grave threat to the health of the 39th president, Cruz defended his remarks.
