85. This is the first time I actually read the thread. When I first saw it, I trashed it.

I didn't want to listen to the rationalizations for it. Later in the thread I read the words of the author of the OP and saw her point, but still don't know if DU is the place for it.

The OP author is white and married to a POC and has kids who are called black. She admitted her family didn't like the word. So I'm ambivalent about that one, and disturbed.

And I don't hang around white people who say it, and very, very few where I live dare to use it. Because there are many mixed race marriages here. The POC I know object very strongly to perjoratives used about white people. They are their family members and take offense, particularly the young ones of color.

IDK if whites are making progress or not. Or if what we are hearing are the dying embers of the KKK's cross going out and still wanting to be relevant.
