(19,926 posts)I agree that there are some who do not look at it as... I don't know the right word... I experience the same sort of thing with women's issues... where yes they are against sexism/racism but don't realize that some of the things they say are taken offense to - or not even as much as offense - because they don't "get" it that much. But I know that those people are in the fight for me and women's rights and are making things happen. The people I think need to be reached are the ones who don't get it at all, let alone the sensitivity to the degree of what that poster was writing about up thread.
That's why I asked. Because they mentioned that "extra sensitivity" (for lack of a better term) which is important but which I don't think negates them being on the right side and working for change. I know men who are for equal rights for women and are great guys but still have a bit to learn. But those aren't the ones who I think need to "get it" in order for change to happen. I think the guys who need to get it are the ones who aren't already against sexism.
Now, I didn't read any of the threads about the shooting of the reporters which seem to have had a lot of terrible things posted in them from what I've been reading, so I'm just talking about the subject in a big picture way, outside of DU.
