Why hadn't Trayvon Martin arrived back home? [View all]
I keep seeing this question from Zimmerman defenders and it drives me nuts. They say that because Zimmerman saw Martin running two minutes before the end of his 911 call, Martin had plenty of time to get home. But they never address these issues:
1) Why hadn't Zimmerman arrived back at his truck? Zimmerman's 911 call ends 3-4 minutes before the screams begin. He had plenty of time to walk back to his truck, as he claims he was doing, and re-enter it safely, yet he hadn't. Why not?
2) If Zimmerman was indeed looking for a street sign (which I think is ridiculous, since the complex had three roads and he had patrolled the streets for two years), then why was he behind the buildings when the altercation took place?
3) There are several reasons why Trayvon might not have arrived back home. A Zimmerman defender even wrote this on another thread: "Of course another thing is probably true. At least in my view, if you are being followed by some threatening person, you do NOT want to lead them to your home. You do NOT want them to know where you live. ... But it is usually easy enough to cut through a neighbor's yard (maybe all the way through) and slip in your own back door undetected."
I responded: That presumes that Trayvon had a key. But we know he didn't have a key. The police report which documents what he had on him mentions no keys. Therefore, to get in the house, he would have had to ring the doorbell and have his future stepbrother let him in.
So Trayvon, by going straight home, would have led a creepy guy to a house in which the only occupant at the time was a 14 year old boy, since Trayvon's father and father's fiancee were out to dinner. Is it any wonder why he didn't go straight home?
4) Another reason why Trayvon might not have arrived back home: he might have gotten lost. Remember, this is a complex in which all the units are identical, and Trayvon was visiting. It was raining, it was night, he was being chased, and was under stress. DeeDee says he had to slow down to catch his breath. He may have also had to get his bearings, and wasn't sure he was so close to home.
