2. If the leaks were things written by the Pope & his secretary, how is it defamatory?

The Pope and his secretary defamed the Vatican? I can agree that there was an invasion of privacy - the Pope has a reasonable expectation that his communications with his secretary should be private, but I don't follow the logic here.
