17. The officer picked the wrong man to tackle for several reasons

Obviously Blake wasn't involved and the process the cop used was outrageous even used with the right suspect.

But James Blake is the absolute perfect person to fight this battle he didn't choose. Handsome, smart, calm, well liked on the tour, well informed about and experienced with racism. Also he has advocated for LBGT (see his comments in response to a player's saying he wouldn't want his daughter to play on the WTA)...and he has the time and the money as well as media access (he works on TV commentary sometimes) to battle. In some ways he is an Obama of tennis.

He won't file a lawsuit for himself. But he may file one to force the police to change its procedures if he can't find another way to make change. I would bet on him.

By the way, the police were damn lucky they didn't injure him badly. He had serious neck and back problems previously and this assault could have caused horrific damage.
