(133 posts)I have been a registered Democrat since I voted for George McGovern in my first presidential election. I have always voted Democratic except for a couple of local Green Party candidates. I have seriously thought of unenrolling because of my disillusionment with the party but I always vote in the primaries and didn't want to lose that. The national party has abandoned many of the candidates nominated in Democratic primaries, in Maine elections, for a few cycles now. They have decided that the candidate was too liberal to beat a "moderate" Republican like Susan Collins or they thought the Independent candidate, Angus King, was good enough, even though he would never say who he planned to caucus with. I will never donate money to the DNC only to individual candidates.
I still have the same values and principles that I had when I was 18. I feel that the Democratic Party has left me as it has given in to corporate issues and gone to the right. I will vote for the candidate whose values most closely reflect mine regardless of their label.
