11. I am so sorry to hear this, having lost a home to fire, too. Holding good thoughts and

sending positive vibes their way.

Our insurance company was great on not arguing with us about contents replacement, but tried to
screw us out of full replacement cost for the structure (that's where the money is). We ended up
having to hire a public adjuster (give them a % of what they recovered), but in the end we finally
got paid enough to be able to pay off the mortgage. Because we had an interest only loan,
the mortgage company was supposed to reduce our payments by the amount the insurance company
originally paid (about 2/3 of the mortgage balance), but they refused. I even had our attorney
contact them and got nowhere. Finally turned to the NC Commissioner of Banks office for assistance
(they regulate banking in the state) and miraculously, within a week, the mortgage holder called ME
and apologized and finally credited the first payoff amount and reduced our payments until we managed
to get the rest out of the insurance company to be able to completely pay off the mortgage.

So, just a word of advice if they run in to problems: public adjuster (to deal with insurance co) and
CA Dept of Business Oversight (for mortgage).
