"On Thursday, May 5, Treasury will suspend until further notice the issuance of any checks against the Special Legislative Office Budget (SLOB) accounts. As you know, these accounts are used to pay vendors for the scheduled deliveries of essential supplies for the comfort and convenience of legislators -- including booze and spray-on-tanning products -- and for government-supplied golf club memberships. When Treasury revokes SLOB, all open accounts are required to be immediately closed, and it typically takes from three to six months to bring them back to active status, usually causing extreme hardship to members of the House and Senate."
