I get slightly more than that in child support. It's the amount I should get for what my ex makes according to our federal (Canada) guidelines. It works out to just over 1/3 of his take home pay.

Guess what? it's barely enough to make ends meet (and yes I work full time but even with a 'desirable' degree I make low wages - with both child support and salary put together I still make roughly half what my ex makes). The child support alone would definitely not cover all of my mortgage/utilities and food costs. Cost of living is high here. My mortgage is high, but rent is higher. If I was renting a similar place (duplex, 1500 sq ft), it would be $600 *more* a month around here than my mortgage payment. I got in the market at a good time, luckily.

Anyhow. Most women are not going to get rich with child support and I'm guessing it's even less likely women are procreating with various baby daddies in order to collect oodles of child support. That's as silly as the right wing view that women are making money on welfare by having babies.

Yes, Bristol Palin is a hypocritical dumbass. But I doubt she is shopping around for the next baby daddy so she can get pregnant with the hopes of getting rich off child support. There are plenty of religious nutcases and right-wing Palin swooners who will send her money and keep her living a nice lifestyle, I'm sure.
