"While I am not entirely morally comfortable with abortion, for a variety of reasons -- not least of which is this country's historical experience during the time when abortion was illegal -- I have to come down on the side of a woman's right to choose. "
I didn't say there were a variety of reasons that I am morally uncomfortable with abortion. I said I am morally uncomfortable with abortion, (but) for a variety of reasons I come down on the side of a woman's right to choose.
So was your omission of that comma after the word abortion, as well as of the concluding phrase of the sentence which clarified any ambiguity as to my stance regarding a woman's right to choose, a deliberate attempt to mischaracterize what I said? If it wasn't, it sure looks like it was.
BTW, those double dashes indicate an interruption of a phrase, therefore, "for a variety of reasons" clearly belongs with what follows the interruption, namely, the phrase "I have to come down on the side of a woman's right to choose."
