(24,877 posts)They're used to going on the attack, the supposed liberals in media give credence to the reich-wing talking points, many liberal politicians modify their statements and the reich wins
Francis won't modify what he says and I think the right is confused about what to do
If they go on a more viscous attack, which they often do, they run the risk of losing the more conservative Catholics out there who may not agree with the Pope, but are old enough to remember the rhetoric from the evangelical Protestants; people like Peggy Noonan, the Mara family (NY Giants owners) and the Mc Mahons
So they have to find some way to channel their inner hatred in a way that doesn't push the monied Catholics from their camp
With Obama they feel they can say whatever stupid, vile crap they want.
The Pope is much harder because his support does cut across into some conservative circles (especially non-white, conservative Catholics)
