(14,912 posts)busted. Looks like someone took a bat to them. I had just traded my gas-hog Dodge RAM 1500 4x4 for this Acura Integra 2 weeks earlier. I guess someone had it out for the guy I traded with because I have no enemies like that that I know of. I had my truck, which was VERY distinctive, for 2 years and no one ever bothered it. Nor had anyone bothered my Jeep Grand Cherokee that I had owned since 2006. Any old enemies I had are either dead, in prison or 800 miles away and I haven't seen in 20+ years. Luckily the windshield just cracked, doesn't leak, and isn't where it obstructs my view. I only have liability insurance, the State Mandatory Minimum, because the car is bought and paid for, so they won't pay for the windows. I have tried taping clear plastic over it, but it doesn't hold for long. I'm still hopeful something good will happen soon, as I have had more than my share of bad luck recently.
I am not a religious person at all, in fact a self described atheist, but I had an experience today that renewed my faith in human kindness from a Christian couple. I belong to a couple of local "yard sale groups" on Facebook. Last month they had some clothes listed really cheap, but there was like 4 people already wanting stuff before I saw it. I just commented that I wanted in line if the other people didn't show up, because I have lost over 70 lbs in the last 5 months and had no clothes that fit me anymore. A few days later, they sent me a private message that they had 10 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans that I could have for $6 if I was interested. I jumped at the offer. They sent me another message yesterday saying they had 25 long sleeve shirts and 2 pairs of jeans for $12 if I was interested. Of course I was! I told them I had just checked my bank account and had $21 and some change, and asked if they could meet me at my bank where I could write them a check and they could cash it right then, because the minimum ATM withdrawal is $20.00. They said that would be no problem.
When I arrived at the bank at the agreed upon time, they were waiting. I got out my check book, and they told me to put it away, that they were GIVING me these clothes because that's what Jesus told them to do. I insisted that I could pay for them, no problem, but they would not take my money. They also said that they were going to be finding some more stuff for me. I was totally awe-struck, and thanked them profusely. I told them if they EVER needed anything and I was physically able to do it that all they had to do was call me or message me.
It took me almost an hour and a half to drive the 15 miles back home because I was so overcome by this strange feeling that I missed my turn and was just driving aimlessly, thinking about what had just happened. Maybe it was Kharma, as I have been involved for the past 10-11 years in helping feed the homeless, often on my own especially at Thanksgiving, and throughout the year when I can. I help with collections on the National level for "Toys for Tots" at Christmas, and also our local program "Toys for Kids" in the County I live in and the 2 surrounding Counties, but I still promised to pay it forward, which I fully intend to do.
It just goes to show how random acts of kindness to others can one day come right back to you. I am still amazed at this moment, and this happened at 9:30 this morning.
Sorry for the long, off topic post, but I HAD to share it with others.
Peace,
Ghost
