14. Sibelian, many of us long term DU members post relatively few OPs, and our reply

posts tend either to be of the "K&R" variety, to help promote what we consider to be posts containing valuable information or insightful analyses, or of the long, careful, analytical variety that we *hope* will add to the discussion. (My own shorter posts are almost always "K&R" posts or just quick efforts to alert DU members to interesting, charming, or significant info or web articles or videos.)

We quieter DU members don't normally participate in the caca-slinging feuds or in the threads idolizing a particular DU member, nor are we part of long term interest focused groups (meaning hobbies, not political interest groups!). Consequently, despite our long years of participation, we are not high profile members, nor to we acquire the sort of "fan club" that more noticeable members acquire. Fortunately, this also means that by flying under the radar, we don't attract the sort of stalking and bullying that a few members are plagued by.

We won't be subjects of worshipful "appreciation" threads, but that doesn't mean our contributions are ignored or unappreciated. I seldom post OPs, despite 11+ years here and about 17,000 posts. But most (not all but close to all) of the OPs I do decide are worth posting do end up garnering enough recs to hit the greatest page, and usually the number of recs is quite high rather than meeting just the minimal number for the greatest page. Also, many of my longer reply posts end up provoking requests to repost them as OPs.

These two things--a high number of recs and a request to repost my reply as an OP--reassure me that taking the time to write a longish, thoughtful analysis is not wasted effort. That is why I continue to do so. My long OPs and replies are not all that frequent, but I believe that at least some people do read them and consider them worthwhile, so I continue to make such posts from time to time.

So don't think your efforts and contributions are not recognized. I am quite sure that other members (including those who are not usually noticed much) value your writing as much as I do.
