(4,407 posts)The other day, Larry showed part of an interview with the guy who raised the drug prices of the AIDS drug from 13.50 to 750.00. That guy commented that it was only $1000 for a run of the drug that saved one's life. The implication was that saving your life was worth a lot more, so he should charge more. There was no connection as to whether it was right or wrong to make a huge profit off of people who were dying, and in a capitalist society he's absolutely right: the only value is money, so you do everything you can to make money.
The republicans seem to be in a similar state: their only goal is to keep themselves employed. They do that by getting rich people to support their campaigns, so they can run more ads, etc. Therefore they do whatever the rich want. Making the country run well doesn't have any place in the equation. Fairness or morality don't have any place in the equation. I should clarify that: actually doing anything to further fairness or morality doesn't have any place, although talking about it to get the votes of suckers does have a place.
