(1,098 posts)Many gun owners suffer from a lack of self-esteem and consequently construct fantasies in which they and their firearms play a central role.
They often view themselves as the 'sheepdogs' whose role it is to protect us 'sheep,' who are unarmed and seen as lacking courage and/or intelligence (they believe if we had more courage and/or intelligence, we would be armed as well, and thereby fellow 'sheepdogs' instead of 'sheep'). From whom do they think they protect us? The 'wolves' though the nature of the wolves varies, depending on which 'sheepdog' you ask. Most 'sheepdogs' see criminals as the 'wolves' but of course some also view the government as one big, bad wolf.
They are the 'warriors,' the 'tactical operators,' the 'freedom fighters,' and a host of other things that gives them a special purpose in life and in their minds elevates them above the rest of us unarmed cowards and idiots. The source of that perceived power? Their firearms. The source of their fantasies? Their lack of self-esteem, aka 'tiny penis'
