And if you're obsessing about figuring out how to keep guns away from the mentally ill after a shooting to divert us from talking about gun safety regulation, congratulations, you're a sucker for NRA manipulation tactics. Again, for the willfully obtuse: The research has proven that most mentally ill people are not violent, and most violent people are not mentally ill. In fact, mentally ill people are most likely to be victims of violence.
