(249 posts)According to the CDCs WONDER database, 5.2 out of every 100,000 Americans were homicide victims, on average, from 2010 to 2012. Thats not especially high by global standards; the median country had 4.7 homicide deaths per 100,000 persons over the same period,1 according to the UNODC data. The highest homicide rate in the world was in Honduras, with 87.9 homicide deaths per 100,000 persons.

Black Americans are almost eight times as likely as white ones to be homicide victims, in other words.
So for white Americans, the homicide death rate is not so much of an outlier. Its only modestly higher than in Finland, Belgium or Greece, for instance, and lower than in Chile or Latvia.

p.s. Heck, I don't care if this gets me alerted. Black (mostly on black) violence has to stop. Period! It is a epidemic in large Cities like mine. While these mass shootings are sad and they get the headlines -we have a big problem. A much Bigger problem, and I don't know how to fix it. Black lives do matter and I wish I knew how to stop it. I have a crazy idea. As a gun owner why not start "gun safety" programs in the large Cities. You learn RESPECT for a weapon and you never point it at another person -period. All my guns have locks on them and my kids both respect and enjoy them. It's a huge responsibility. And skeet is a lot of fun. I don't even let my kids point fake guns at people. It's that important!
