If what I am proud of, and what I look down on others for, is things I and they have and had no control over, that is quite sad.

Just as bullies are always cowards at heart, the stronger the prejudice, the more insecure that person is and the more self-loathing they struggle to suppress.

Nicely said. People that feel good about themselves are much less likely to be racists, homophobes, bullies or nativists. When you don't feel good about yourself, it is common to look for others who are different from you to look down on. "I may feel bad about myself but at least I am not a --------."
