The union of bus drivers, subway operators and employees related to the STM (SCFP 1983) took a strong position on the law 78 this week.
"This legislation is unprecedented in that it is now necessary to have the authorization of police for any gathering of more than 50 people. Such a requirement is undermining the fundamental right of citizens to express themselves and to express freely in public. Ultimately, this law could harm the actions taken by the trade union movement. It could become very difficult, for example, to manifest in the future against the PPP. Remember the events of 2005 which nearly 1000 members in 1983 had participated. Today, these demonstrations of dissatisfaction would be illegal ... "
