If professor Peterson was to push it, I am not sure the chancellor would be able to stop him unless he wants to destroy the reputation of his campus. Universities are made by having strong academics teaching and doing their research there. They are the one bringing the money via research grants. Now, I do not know the particular situation at UC Boulder. However, a fight between the administration and prominent professors never end well for both parties since academics would not have any problems moving to another university which is more accommodating as evidenced in this article.
I am sick of gun advocates wanting to impose their values on others. Many are uncomfortable with having weapons on campus (students and profs) and if gun owners had any decency they would refrain from carrying at the university.
