if it hadn't been him it would have been someone else. He's not particularly laudable, but you can find something legitimately objectionable about every human being who's ever lived, is living, or will live. Lincoln presided over Native American genocide, and he's generally regarded as one of the top two or three most significant figures in US history. At some point you have to let the past stay in the past and go on from there. That goes for Columbus, Confederates, or what have you.
